Much of the architecture in Lecce is in the Baroque style which flourished in the 17th century, this earned the city the name "The Florence of the South". We will walk the historic old town visiting the Duomo which has the highest bell tower in Puglia and stands in an large piazza. Lecce also is the home of the impressive Church of the Holy Cross which has a large rose window and richly decorated facade with many grotesques . We will visit the ancient Roamn ampitheatre which is overlooked by the statue of San Oronzo the patron saint of the city. He stands on top of a Roman column. Lecce has great designer shops, boutiques and interesting cafes so you can spend some time shopping if you wish.
